We are particularly interested in the myriad of wonderful and often unpredictable ways in which people inhabit and use public space. The beauty of public space is it’s multiplicity and complexity; as such we explore design strategies that avoid simplification and reduction and seek to draw out the inherent richness and diversity of the site and its inhabitants. Our work focuses strongly on developing functional designs that offer multiple and new ways of experiencing public space. We are also interested in the overlap and interaction of different uses that often results in spontaneous and unexpected interactions.

Playful & Unpredicatble

Energy Generation

In 2012, Site Office became a registered small energy generation facility (RSEGF) with the installation of a 15kw photovoltaic solar array on the roof of our office. Comprising of 60 PV cells mounted on the north facing roof of our office, this facility generates on average 75kw of power every day, far in excess of our daily usage of between 10-14kw a day. The remaining power is exported back to grid, helping to reduce peak loads and reliance on carbon emitting coal power. In the first 3 years, the facility generated over 60,000kw of power, 90% of which was sent back to the grid.

Chris Sawyer is a founding member of SITE | OFFICE. He is passionate about the design of the city, and conservation of natural landscapes. He is Adjunct Professor of Landscape Architecture at RMIT University.

Site Office is a collaborative practice that seeks out creative partnerships with a variety of professionals, ranging from scientists, artists, designers, communicators, through to engineers, ecologists, horticulturists and community groups. The nature of the collaborative practice means that we can adapt and move fluidly with complex projects. We have established an excellent network of allied professionals who assist on most projects we undertake. Project teams consisting of appropriately skilled professionals are commonly gathered for specific projects to ensure all areas of the project are successfully dealt with. Our collaborations support and inspire our high quality delivery of all projects.
